A bulb is an underground vertical stem that has tailored leaves with thick bases. The leaves of bulbs are frequently used as food storage pedicles when the plant is dormant.
The leaves of the bulb generally do not support the leaves, garden sculpture, . Plants that form true bulbs include onions, garlic, lily, tulip, amaryllis, and Iris.
Most flower bulbs necessitate a cold climate to bloom perennially. In southern part of the country, bulb species have evolved that do not always need this recurrent, garden sculpture, frosty weather to multiply. These bulbs, which grow in Florida, Tennessee, Arizona, and Texas, include several species of narcissus, French Roman Hyacinth, and the tulip.
Bulbs are, garden sculpture, easy care plants. They are a lot easier to handle than tiny seeds. However, there are two provisos; you must choose the right bulb to grow. Once grown,, garden sculpture, bulbs are hardy with a good reputation for reliability and can be left in the ground to come up year after year. There are many bulbs to choose from like, Botanical tulips, snowdrops, grape hyacinths, narcissi and daffodils. There are others that have to be lifted out of the ground and stored for the year after; these are garden tulips, hyacinths and nearly all gladioli. You usually do that once the foliage is shriveled.
The second proviso is you must plant bulbs in the right place. There are two important things one, garden sculpture, must remember; the main one being, garden sculpture, that once the foliage dies down once the flowering is over- this can be quite unsightly with large plants. You must not cut these large plant off until it is brown and withered. The next important thing is to remember where to plant bulbs, since many bulbs spread quite rapidly by self-seeding. Thus, one should not set them too close to delicate plants which maybe over run.
TULIPS
When planting any bulbs like tulips or daffodils, plant the bulbs, garden sculpture, 10 cm (4in) deep and 10cm (4in) apart. Water the bulbs when the buds are rising to encourage large blooms and taller stems. Always top dress bulbs in autumn after planting. For long-term display, wait until the foliage has died off before cutting back. Also beware of slugs, they absolutely love tulips!
The bulbs grow well in a fertile, sandy soil and in a sunny location. Tulips like to be planted before the first frost or during the autumn and as late as November. They need cold weather to root. If you do grow them in containers, you must not forget to water them during the early spring when you might get dry, warm weather, or else, garden sculpture, the bulbs will dry out and all that, garden sculpture, hard work will be gone to waste.
If you love tulips than a visit to Keukenhof, is the place to go, where from March to May, about six million tulips will bloom. Since 1949, the Dutch bulb growers put on a display of all varieties and colours of tulips among sculpture exhibitions and other permanent garden displays. People travel from all over the world just to see the array of tulips. It is a breath taking site and a must for all tulip lovers.

Do you ever dream about what your yard could look like some day? As you look through garden catalogs filled with beautiful trees, shrubs, flowers and pictures, garden sculpture, of beautifully landscaped yards--complete with ponds and garden sculptures--the, garden sculpture, choices seem endless. Before ordering hundreds of plants or giving up because you cannot decide what you really want, here are a few things to consider.
A common issue in landscaping is creating a peaceful, private environment. While fencing can provide immediate privacy, consider a buffer strip of shrubbery between your yard and the one next door. Many shrubs will grow quickly--within a couple of years--and act as a screen, garden sculpture, while providing, garden sculpture, habitat for a variety of birds. Consider planting native shrubs because they are usually well adapted to local conditions and may provide the best habitat for local wildlife.
Other considerations: whether the plants, garden sculpture,, garden sculpture, have special characteristics such as flowers or fruits, how large they will eventually become, and how much maintenance they require to remain healthy and in scale with your yard. Check with a local nursery or garden center for recommended species.
If you always thought it would be fun to have a pond, try it. With the variety of materials now on the market, anyone can have a garden pond, regardless of the size of the yard. If you have a lot of space, you can build one right in the ground. You can purchase a pre-formed mold or dig a hole and line it with a plastic pond liner. A simple type of pond consists of a plastic lined barrel or tub. Just add water, plants, a pump, and even fish--and you have a pond for your patio. Be sure to consider sources of electricity if you intend to add a pump. Also, make sure you use caution and take security measures if small children have access to your yard and the pond. Another factor to consider is maintenance. A pond can require a lot of effort to keep it clear of algae, leaves, and debris.
If you do not want to spend your weekends maintaining a yard, turn part of it into a wildflower garden. Depending on, garden sculpture, where you live, this could be a prairie, desert landscape, or alpine garden. Check on local zoning ordinances. Some communities have not yet, garden sculpture, recognized the value of "native landscaping" and may consider this a nuisance area. If you want a more maintained yard, consider ground covers instead of grass and use mulch to control weeds in foundation plantings and flower beds.
When selecting plants, make sure they are adapted to your area. Consider both the minimum and maximum temperatures, amount of moisture, amount of sunlight, and soil characteristics. Ask yourself: Do you want an annual that will need replanting every year or a perennial that comes up year after year? Do you want cut flowers for inside your home or to give to friends?
Consider native plants. They are usually better adapted to local conditions and need little maintenance. Be cautious about introducing exotic species such as purple loosestrife that will become, garden sculpture, invasive and is prohibited in many states.
Above all, choose what you like. There is an enormous variety of plants that will provide food and shelter to a wide variety of wildlife. With a little planning, you and the local wildlife can both enjoy the yard of your dreams.
